Our practice participates with the Allergan Brilliant Distinctions Program for rebates after botox treatments. Botox Botox is one of the fastest growing procedures in cosmetic medicine. Botox has been used in millions of people since 2002 to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines. Botox is a quick procedure that consists of injections with a fine needle. There is minor discomfort and the procedure takes up to seven days to see the full effects. Botox works by blocking nerve impulses in the injected muscles. As a result, the injected muscles do not contract and the skin smoothes out. The wrinkle reductions by Botox typically last four to six months, however, some people schedule their injections every three months because they do not want to see the reappearance of the facial wrinkles (a very similar practice to those who color their hair before they see substantial root growth). Dermal fillers Though not as long lasting as a face-lift, dermal fillers have become popular among women seeking a younger look and offer yet another alternative to cosmetic surgery. Dermal fillers are substances injected into the skin of the face to fill in deep folds and wrinkles. Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion is a procedure in which the dead outermost surface of the skin is partially or completely removed by light abrasion, to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. The procedure is not very painful and requires no anesthetic. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. IPL Treatments IPL treatments (intense pulsed light) is a procedure that delivers high intensity pulses of broadband light to the skin. It is non-ablative, meaning that is does not damage the surface of the skin. The intense light is delivered to the deeper parts of the skin (dermis) and leaves the superficial aspect of the skin (epidermis) untouched. There are different versions of IPL available on the market that target different structures in the skin.
